Why do you think hare wanted to race tortoise?

The Hare stopped under a tree to take a nap and when he woke up the Tortoise was still a long ways away and decided to go back to sleep and when he woke again the Tortoise was nearly to the finish line and the Hare raced after him but the Tortoise finished the race and beat the Hare.
