Is bracing important on aquariums

Indeed. It is very important. Without the correct bracing in exactly the right places the tank will expand due to the pressures caused by the depth/weight of the water. Then at its weakest points the glass will bend and eventually break and the water will go everywhere. I know this because it happened to me.
