I wouldn't recommend one for a first-time snake. The ROYAL PYTHON (Python regius) - to give its official name - is well-known for going on 'self-imposed fasts'. This means they can just stop eating for no apparent reason (and I speak from experience !)

Although a docile species, they are also a heavy-bodied snake and CAN reach lengths of 60 inches (1.5m) in length. Some of my own specimens are that length AND still growing !

They require height humidity (being a jungle species) and branches to climb on - with a daytime temperature of up to 30oC and a night-time drop of about 10oC
