Do dogs carry the virus syphilis?

Syphilis is caused by bacteria, not a virus, so it is impossible for any organism to be infected by a syphilis virus.

The bacterium that causes syphilis, Terponema pallidum pallidum, can only be carried by humans. However, other species may carry similar bacteria that cause similar diseases in those animals.
