Why was dr. Phil's medical license revoked?

Dr. Phil McGraw's medical license was never revoked; he voluntarily surrendered it in 2006. The decision was made as part of his transition from practicing psychology to focusing on his television career. While he holds a doctoral degree in psychology, he is not currently licensed to practice as a psychologist.
