If you look at the middle brake light, you'll notice two (2) notches on the left and right of the light. (This is looking at the brake light from the outside of the car, not the inside of the hatch.) Using a flathead screwdriver, pry the two screw covers off (they are plastic just like the rest of the brake light cover). Unscrew the screws and presto, you find the back to the light...you should be good from this point.

Additional Information:

Applies to: 2003-2008 Model Years only.

The two screw covers (notches mentioned above) are integrated into the brake light itself on each side but can be pried of using just fingers if needed exposing two (8 x 1") Phillips screws that, when backed out allow you to pull out the entire third brake light (CHMSL) assembly out of the roof spoiler. The bulb is a 921 incandescent bulb in a twist-lock socket. Since this bulb is inserted on a severe (almost 90degree) angle, a replacement incandescent or a 921 LED bulb that has a 360 degree pattern would work well, even if it is longer than the standard 921 bulb.
