Most English Words ending in -ly are adverbs, describing how a thing is done or performed. In the sentence "He successfully reached the top of the mountain", successfully describes the verb "reached".
A noun is the name of a thing, a person, an object, a thought, an idea and so on - in the example "mountain" is a noun.
In modern very poor English many people leave off the -ly from adverbs, saying things like "He was hurt bad", instead of "He was hurt badly" - this does not help in understanding correct English.
