Advantage (original formulation) had been recommended by rabbit veterinarians as flea control for our rabbits and used for 10+ years on several different rabbits without a single problem/adverse reaction. The new formulation (Advantage II), now has the Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) pyriproxyfen as an additional active ingredient (in addition to imidacloprid, the active ingredient in both formulations, and the only active ingredient in Advantage original formulation).

Yes, pyriproxyfen (and Advantage II) is safe for rabbits, but you should talk to your "rabbit-savvy" vet about this because:

  • The vet can tell you the proper dose: it's not the same for rabbits as it is for cats/dogs.
  • You shouldn't diagnose the problem yourself: what if you're wrong?
  • The rabbit needs a thorough physical exam to make sure there aren't any hidden secondary health problems.
