Who commanded the German Afrika Korps and was known as the Desert Fox?

Erwin Rommel, perhaps Germany's best general during World War II, was called the Desert Fox.

Later in the war he became part of the failed conspiracy to kill Adolf Hitler. Due to his wide renown, Hitler chose to eliminate him quietly. Hitler agreed not to harm his family, and Rommel agreed to commit suicide.
