How long has Ellen Ochoa been an astronaut?

Ellen Ochoa became an astronaut in 1991 when she was selected as a NASA astronaut candidate. She flew her first space mission in 1999, spending nearly 1,000 hours in space over the course of four missions until her retirement in 2002. Ochoa is also notable for being the first Hispanic woman to go to space.
