How does pink lemonade get pink?

The pink in pink lemonade is originally from a dash of Grenadine, a dark red syrup made from pomegranate juice and lots of sugar. Adding it to regular lemonade made the drink more attractive to children both in look and in taste (as it was much sweeter).
