What happens if the alternator belt falls off?

The car's battery is used to start the engine, once it is running the alternator spins generating electricity to power the car's ignition system (spark plugs,radio,wipers,ect). If this belt slips or comes off the battery will be forced to supply this power and will deplete in a very short time, likely 10-30 minutes.
