How do i turn the radio of 2003 s40 Volvo on it says off?

According to all the Volvo sites:

1. turn ignition to position 1

2. turn radio on so that it reads "OFF"

3. Wait... it may take hours for the unit to reset...

4. Once unit ask for code, input it according to instructions supplied with vehicle
