Germany was, prior to WW1, involved in an arms race with Great Britain. The Kaiser was the 'Supreme War Lord'. The war of 1870-71 against France was still fresh in the mind, especially in France. Well... the first world war started because a Prince (of some country I cant remember) was murdered. That country which I can not remember was allied with Germany. And Germany seeing that his allied just got owned, decided to to war with the nation who the assassin was from (Another Country I cant remember). So then all the nations in Europe were like, "Well if Germany is going to war with my ally the I'm goin to war too". To fill out the above (& my reply originally is an Answerthon one, which is why it is brief.) The Prince assassinated is the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria/Hungary who was shot by Gavril Prinzip, a Serb. Austria Hungary uses this as a pretext to attack Serbia who is the ally of Russia who has an Alliance with France & in turn Britain. Germany then comes to the aid of Austria Hungary & marches through Belgium to get to France. But what is said above is essentially correct.
