Why is it called male to female USB?

The terms "male" and "female" in USB (Universal Serial Bus) connections refer to the physical design of the connectors. A "male" USB connector has protruding pins that fit into a "female" connector, which has corresponding holes to receive those pins. This terminology is borrowed from the general conventions in hardware design, where the male connector is designed to insert into the female connector, facilitating an electrical connection.
