Taxes are often a very significant burden on any large, profitable organization. The top US tax rate in this country is 40% for businesses. Think about how misleading it would be to report profits before a chunk that size was removed?

I also should point out that businesses report profit both before and after tax. Go to sec.gov and review some 10-K filings.
