The primary threats to Golden-shouldered parrots are poachers. Bring in strict laws and heavy penalties for poachers, together with efficient law-enforcement, and these birds may see a resurgence in population. Habitat-clearing is also a problem. Action to preserve these birds' habitat would go a long way to saving the creature.
They are sought, illegally, by poachers (who wish to sell them for hundreds of dollars apiece). Improved monitoring of potential poachers would help.
