Sunfish, or mola, can survive out of water for short periods, typically around 1 to 2 hours, depending on environmental conditions. Their ability to tolerate being out of water is limited due to their gills, which need water to extract oxygen. However, prolonged exposure to air can lead to stress and potential mortality. Generally, they are well adapted to life in the ocean and should return to the water as quickly as possible.
