How do you get email alerts with Apple computer iCal?

From iCal's Window menu select Address Book and ensure your email address is included with your details. Right click on the event in iCal that you wish to be reminded about and select Get Info from the menu that pops up. In the Alarm sectiom of the Info window select Email from the menu of options.
