bubbles from behind it, it is because it is a sexually mature male turtle.
A few species of turtles have cloacal bursae that are rich in blood vessels and can be used for gas exchange. The vast majority of turtle species do not either have these cloacal bursae, or if they do, they cannot use them for gas exchange.
