The answer to this depends on the situation. There are certain medical conditions that make it necessary to deliver a baby early for the health of the mother. Usually this means lots of medical issues for the baby. Ultimately, it's best for both mother and child in MOST cases for the baby to go full term. Early delivery means breathing issues, higher risk for infection, brain and bleeding issues and a host of other problems. The baby will have to stay in the hospital. But when the survival to the mother or future health of the mother is at risk, doctors can give her shots to help mature the baby's lungs and deliver early if necessary. Most of the time, an obstetrician is going to try to get them as close to the due date as possible. Good luck and best wishes.
