What is desophagus?

The esophagus is a muscular tube that connects the throat (pharynx) to the stomach, playing a crucial role in the digestive system. It transports food and liquids swallowed from the mouth down to the stomach through coordinated muscle contractions known as peristalsis. The esophagus is lined with a mucous membrane that helps protect it from the abrasive nature of food. In humans, it is approximately 25 centimeters (10 inches) long.
