No single action could have stopped the Blitz (the bombing of London during WWII). Its effects were partially mitigated by anti-aircraft fire, helped by searchlights, by barrage balloons and by the RAF fighter aircraft. The citizens of London endured much pain and destruction; some mitigation was provided by individual bomb shelters and by communal shetlers including deep underground stations.
