With bumble bees and solitary bees, young queens find a sheltered place to hibernate and the rest die when the cold weather comes.
Honey bees don't hibenate but in cold weather will cluster together on the comb to keep warm. They generate heat as necessary by vibrating their flight muscles. They won't leave the hive if it is too cold, but can often be seen flying around on warmer days.
