Sarcasm is a type of pun that allows one to say one thing and mean another.

EX: No! I said we were going to Africa! -the speaker didn't really mean they were going to Africa. They were most likely answering a rhetorical question, which sarcasm often shows in.

Another way to say one thing and mean another is through similes and metaphors. Similes are are a way of comparing to unlike things using the Words like or as. Similes and metaphors are much alike. Metaphors, though much like similes, are the exact same except for one difference: metaphors do not use like or as.

Metaphor EX: I thought of were I should be; the battle lines drawn it the sand, now washed away by the ocean of time. -this person doesn't mean that an ocean ruined the pretty pictures they drew in the sand, they mean it's to late to go back to their old life.

Simile EX: I felt so light on my feet that I thought I might just float off into the unknown like a balloon dropped by a crying child.
