Extremely carefully!! If what you own are genuine antiques, do not even attempt to clean them yourself. Get a professional to have a look at it. Perhaps go to a museum and see what they say about cleaning it. It is all too easy to remove the fine patina that develops on the blade and fittings. This devalues an antique knife like nothing else. Have a professional restorer do the job.
