What does to stand up for oneself mean?

I kill people with kindness. If that doesn't work and the situation escalates I wait for someone to put there hands on me first ( so I can't get in a lot of trouble ) and then whoop there as*. The best way to stand up for yourself is to walk with your head high and no one really gets confrontational.
