William Blake is a respected poet, artist, and engraver. He was influenced by Gothic art and architecture. Not to mention he had an exceptional imagination which lead him to create many unique, yet beautiful pieces of art. Blake was strongly influenced by John Henry Fuseli who was an Anglo-Swiss painter who worshiped Shakespeare and Michelangelo. However, John Henry Fuseli was not the only artist that influenced Blake. Blake also studied the work of Michelangelo and was greatly influenced by his own religious beliefs. Blake was devoted to the bible, and also admired the medieval period.
- His work is religious or mystical in expression and romantic in spirit. It is full of movement, flickering or glaring light, medieval symbols, andmannerist musculature and arrangement.
