When was the hot-mail developed?

Hotmail was developed in 1996 by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith. It was one of the first webmail services, allowing users to access their email from any internet-connected computer. The service quickly gained popularity and was acquired by Microsoft in 1997, later rebranded as Outlook.com.
