Why do cars have metal bodies?

The reason behind the fact that cars have metal rather than other types of metals is not a mystery. Metal even though at periods of high cost in value still is one of the least expensive metals to work with and are cost effective. Take for example vehicles with aluminum body parts; They are either luxury or sport vehicles and cost much more money then the conventional metal car. Does this help?
