Most sharks lay eggs, which are generally referred to as 'mermaid's purses'. I would imagine that the Greenland shark does the same, since there are very few who give birth to live young.

So the answer to your question is that they don't. They find an appropriate place to lay the eggs, lay 'em, and leave.
