The police officers are not qualified "estimators". The business's insurance carrier has qualified people for this task and have based the repairs on actual costs involved. Although the physical damage may look inconsequential to the casual observer, other things come into account:

- availability of materials that exactly match what was there before

- labor charges to remove, rebuild and re-install the sheet metal pieces

- if electrical lamps were damages, an electrician needs to to their work, too.

Can't fathom why anyone would try to drive their car with a travel trailer attached into a Sonic drive in ... surely there are other places to park.
