In Iowa, a boating accident must be reported to the Department of Natural Resources if it results in a fatality, injury requiring medical treatment beyond first aid, or property damage exceeding $2,000. Additionally, if a person goes missing or is presumed dead as a result of the accident, it must also be reported. The report should be submitted within 48 hours of the incident.
