What is Vyvanse?

Vyvanse is a central nervous stimulant which affects chemicals in the brain, increasing concentrations of certain neurotransmitters. Vyvanse is approved to treat ADHD in both children and adults. Vyvanse is the brand-name for lisdexamfetamine. Lisdexamfetamine is a prodrug of dextroamphetamine. Dextroamphetamine is a controlled substance in most countries and is only dispensed under the authorization of a doctor.

Dextroamphetamine works by increasing two chemicals in the brain: dopamine and norepinephrine. Both chemicals have been shown to play a role in focus and attention, and by raising these levels dextroamphetamine is able to help a person concentrate and sit still for longer periods of time.

Vyvanse carries unique properties due to being a prodrug of amphetamine. Vyvanse is inactive until an enzyme works to activate allowing a longer duration of symptom relief (up to 14 hours) and less abusable properties since it must be swallowed to become active.

Vyvanse is available in doses of 20mg, 30mg, 40mg, 50mg, 60mg, and 70mg. In Canada, Vyvanse is only available in doses of 20mg, 40mg, and 60mg.
