What was chocolate first used for?

Cacao beans were used historically for their medicinal powers to heal fevers, coughs, and pregnancy discomforts such as morning sickness. Also as a gift, people would give Hot Chocolate drinks to leaders. Today chocolate is used as a sugary food, that people eat for no real particular reason besides the good taste.
