Why is St. Lawrence the patron saint of cooks?

Lawrence is the patron saint of the poor since he was a deacon to Pope Saint Sixtus and was charged with the responsibility of helping care for and feed the poor. He is the patron saint of chefs since he was martyred by being roasted alive on a grill over a slow fire. He is reported to have told his executioner, "You can turn me over now, I'm done on this side."
