Why did the Chinese invent silk?

i guess they wanted fine cloth to trade with people in Europe.

They didn't mean to make it. The silk goddess forgot her name but she wasnt goddess at time this made her goddess was drinking tea under a tree, when a silk worm cocoon fell into her tea. It unravled and she told someone to make it into clothes.
