What is IR camera?

IR stands for infrared - the energy just below red light. Some of the digital camera sensors on satellites are sensitive to IR, and most consumer digital cameras are sensitive to IR to some extent, but have built-in filters to block it. These can be converted to IR by replacing the filter with a clear piece of glass.

In the film era, there were special IR-sensitive films, that had to be handled very carefully.
