What does the man in the tree represent in lord of the flies?

The dead parachutist represents man. He arrives on the island just when Ralph and Piggy, desperate for help wish for a sign from the outside world. He arrives but not in the way the boys expect. The man reminds us that the adults are at war in just the same way the children are. it alslo gives the boys something to fear. providing them with a real life beast although, we as the reader, know that is not the case.
