Why didn't Odysseus stop his men from eating the cattle of the sun god?

The sun god, HeliOS, gets mad and threatens Zeus to go to the underworld forever if he doesn't punish Odysseus's' men. So Zeus throws a lightning bolt and everyone, but Odysseus, dies. In addition, when the men eat the beef, the skin and the meat wiggle around as it is cooked (disgusting), but the men don't care, representing the materialism they possess, and comparing them to the suitors.
