No, the milkweed family is not weedy. The name originates in the Old English uueod or weod for a grass, herb or plant not valued for its beauty even though milkweed, of known beauty, benefit and use, is not weedy. Milkweeds serve as sources of food for bees, Monarch Butterflies and wasps and of clean-up for oil spills, cordage, hypoallergenic filling for pillows, rubber, silk, sweeteners and wireworm repellents.
