Why did Dr. Seuss call him DrSeuss?

Theodor Seuss Geisel was expelled from doing extra curricular writing for his university's paper after he was caught drinking gin with 9 friends. He got around this by posting editorials under the name Seuss. He first started using the Dr 6 months after graduating into his work for The Judge where his weekly feature Birdsies and Beasties appeared.
