I live in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. About ten days ago I scared a Gambel's Quail hen from her nest of thirteen eggs while I was trimming some brush in my backyard. I immediately stopped and have left the area alone all this time, in hope that she made her way back. I have been hesitant to inspect too closely to see if she had returned until just a few minutes ago. She was not there, but all the eggs remain. I don't know if she just happened to be out feeding or what. I get the feeling that she has not and will not return. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the chicks show up anytime soon. I am trying to find out some information on what to do now. On one hand, I would love to retrieve them and incubate them in my home, but I don't want to take the chance that the mother is still around and will end up doing a fine job herself. So there you are....I haven't answered a darned thing. - Cactus Bob
