What does it mean when your rabbit digs holes in your backyard?

Generally speaking, rabbits like to dig - in the dirt, their litter, towels and blankets, cardboard boxes, woven grass mats, etc. Digging is a natural behaviour for bunnies. In the wild, rabbits dig borrows underground, so pet rabbits enjoy digging too.

It's good to give your rabbit something to dig in. The rabbit will enjoy it and it can help relieve stress.

Make sure anything you give your rabbit is safe. Towels and blankets can be dangerous if the rabbit eats any (can cause gut impaction), or if they tear holes in the fabric and get a limb or head stuck.

Make sure your rabbit can't dig under the run (or other animals, predators, can dig their way in).
