Ostriches are omnivores; they generally eat whatever happens to be present in their habitat, such as locusts, insects, lizards, plants, and even the occasional mouse. They are often seen with zebras and antelopes; this is not only for added protection, but also because the hooves of these animals stir up the ground and provide numerous insects for the ostrich.
