The oldest fossils of early hominids have been found in Africa.
(most common place for hominids to live in the Paleolithic. Mesolithic, and Neolithic Stone Age periods)
The Gauteng (aka Cradle of Human-kind) province has findings of most of the findings in the world. Sterkfontein, a series of limestone caves in Africa, is the area where more than 1/3 of the oldest hominid fossils were discovered.
Also in 2001, a group of French people found what they believe to be the remains of the earliest human, Toumai, aged around 7 million years old, in the Chadian Desert of Africa. The debate surrounding this had yet to be resolved.
