Why did having a spouse and family be so difficult for a Receiver in the giver?

Having a spouse and family would create personal attachments and emotions that could interfere with the objectivity and emotional distance required of a Receiver. These distractions would compromise the Receiver's ability to absorb and transmit memories without bias or personal influence.
