What equipment is needed to hook up DSL to a computer with Windows XP?

A modem, which you normally get from the DSL provider, is really the only thing you need (apart from a computer).

But it is recommended to get a home router/firewall as well, it gives basic protection against computer attacks from the internet and lets you hook up a second computer to the same DSL connection.
