How were women treated in the 16th century?

In the 16th Century, women were not treated as they are now.

Women were not given much respect, and spent most of their adult lives pregnant and raising children, as it was important for the men to have someone to carry on their family.

Men had jobs that women were said to be unable to do because apparently they were too manly for women. However, this was obviously an incorrect view as women nowadays have a variety of complex and/or well-paid jobs that men also have, and are just as capable of these as men.

Women did not get to have these jobs and such because of sexism too. They were said to be weak, gossips, and that God had put them on Earth for men. And so they had to obey their fathers and husbands.

Girls were often brought into marriages that they did not want, as young as around 15 (and sometimes younger) so they could carry on the family and get money.

Altogether, women were treated much worse as they are today.
