Romulo, who became President of the United Nations General Assembly in 1949, was awarded the 1942 Pulitzer Prize for Correspondence (now called International Reporting) while working as a reporter for the Philippines Herald. The selection committee cited the value of "his observations and forecasts of Far Eastern developments during a tour of the trouble centers from Hong Kong to Batavia."
